PITTSBURGH, Pa.—The Lady Baron soccer team won its third straight conference game, beating La Roche College 3-1 and giving them a winning record of 3-2 in conference play and 9-5 overall. With a bit of a roller coaster feel to the speed of play in the beginning, the Lady Barons ended up pulling it together and coming out on top.

"We came out a little slow then picked it up and scored one early on and then we definitely got a little comfortable and they scored on us," head coach Clare McBane said. "We then came out really hard in the second half."

Keeping the intensity alive throughout the game was junior forward Jordan Byrley who scored two of the three goals of the game. Byrley's first goal came in the thirteenth minute off of a cross from fellow junior Ashley Ruttencutter.

"Jordan had a phenomenal game she had some serious looks at goal, some really good shots and several times she out dribbled defenders," McBane said. "Her scoring both our first and last goals was great. She came out to play and she played very hard and very well."

Byrley's second goal of the game was five minutes after the team scored off of a corner kick for the first time this season. Freshman midfielder Meghan Darcy was ready and in good position as the kick came soaring across the face of the goal from the corner. Darcy was able to get a foot on the ball and she guide it straight past the goalkeeper into the net.

Then shortly after, Byrley was in the right place at the right time again as she received an assist from junior team captain Julia Cocozza which she tapped into the net. Cocozza, who is usually a midfielder, was moved up to play forward.

"Jordan had a really shining game of finishing and sometimes finding a girl who can finish is the toughest thing to do," McBane said. "It doesn't have to be pretty, complicated or fancy it just has to be a nice little tap into the back of the net and Jordan was there twice to clean it up and make it happen for us."

Also making it happen for the team was the defense that kept the sheet clean after letting up the initial goal earling in the first half. Playing a key role in the defense was sophomore Calene Dougherty. Anytime there was a breakaway she was able to step in as the last line of defense and ward off any attempts on the goal.

"Our defense played remarkably. Right after we scored our first goal the defense sat back and got a little comfortable but after the other team scored they picked it up and played with fury," McBane said. "They weren't about to let another one in and they really stepped it up."

The team continues to move forward in their conference season with their eyes on the playoffs as they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to play D'Youville College on Oct. 19 at 7p.m.
