Box Score BUFFALO, NY --Franciscan University Men's Soccer team beat conference opponent, D'Youville College 1-0. The win was a great come back for the Barons after a three game losing streak in conference play.
"We had a really great effort by everybody today. The team played really well together," Head Coach Ward Rogers said. "It was cold and rainy the whole time but we were able to control the ball in those conditions."
Despite their recent losing streak, the Barons pulled it together to secure a solid win today. Rogers said that the team played really well on defense, despite some counter attacks by D'Youville.
"We played very well defensively," Rogers said. "Blake Bonilla, Jace Vansteenburg, and Luke Merry all played really well."
Additionally, Rogers said that fullbacks Peter Mooney and Peter Herrmann worked hard defensively to help control the ball well.
"The outside defenders really helped us a lot," Rogers said. "Peter Mooney and Peter Hermann really helped us control the ball, and helped us work it up the field."
By winning this conference game the Barons are given new hope in moving up in their AMCC standings and look to keep winning and secure a spot in the playoffs. Next the Barons will play Penn St.-Altoona. Rogers said they have a good idea of Altoona plays, and will spend the next few days practicing hard to win that game and move up in conference.
"The next game is really important for us in conference standing," Rogers said. "We need to keep winning games to be able to secure the playoffs spot."
The Barons will play Penn St.-Altoona at home, at 2pm on Wednesday, October 23rd.
