Lady Baron Tennis Finishes Conference Season in Second Place

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – In their second match of the weekend, the Lady Barons beat Penn St. - Altoona 7-2, and secured their second place ranking in the AMCC with a conference record of 6-1.

This match was the last conference match of the 2013 season, which made it a vital win for the Lady Barons.

"This was just a big win. I'm proud of the girls for pulling out a 7-2 win," Head Coach Jenna Lynch said. "It solidified our spot at number two in the conference and it's going to give us a bye for the first weekend of conference play."

The Lady Barons came out strong right from the start, and won all three doubles matches. No. 2 and no. 3 doubles teams both beat their opponents 8-0. The no. 1 doubles team of sophomore Caeles Crunkleton-Wilson and junior Renata Crespo, won a tight match at 9-7.

"I was really proud of the no. 1 doubles for pulling out such a tight win," Lynch said.

The line-up for singles play was altered for the match because of the absence of the usual no. 5 singles player. Erin Coyne moved up to the no. 5 spot and Caroline Wilson played at no. 6. Regardless of moving up in the lineup, both players played a great match and beat their opponents.

"We didn't have Allie Jenson for today so we put in Caroline Wilson. She ended up being a good strong win for us at no. 6," Lynch said. "Erin got moved up to no. 5 and stayed solid at her game. She won 6-0, 6-0."

Coyne's win gives the freshman a perfect 7-0 record in conference play. The missing Jenson also finished conferece play undefeated 6-0 record.

Tomorrow, the Lady Barons will face Westminster College for the second time this season. Westminster has been a tough team for the Lady Barons to beat, and took their previous match 8-1. Lynch said she hopes to see a solid change in the typical scores when they face off again tomorrow.

"Tomorrow we play Westminster," Lynch said. "Hopefully our scores show that we've improved since the last time that we played them."

Tomorrow's match against Westminster will be at 2pm at Belleview Park.
