Box Score 2 OBERLIN, Ohio – The Barons fell 9-0 and 8-0 in a double header against Carnegie Mellon University and Oberlin College.
The first match against Carnegie Mellon started nearly four hours late due to a rain delay. Because of the delay the singles matches were played in pro-sets and the match ended quickly.
Shortly after the first match, the Barons were back on the courts for their second match against Oberlin. Despite taking an 8-0 loss, the Barons played hard and forced a number of tight matches against the Yeomen.
"The guys played really well," Head Coach Jeremy Lynch said. "We had a couple of close matches."
One highlight of the match was no. 2 singles player, senior Leonel Lacayo who graduates from Franciscan in December. Ellis said Lacayo lost his first set 6-3, was up in the second, and then lost 7-6 in a tie-breaker.
"That was his last match of his college career. He stepped up and played really well," Ellis said. "It was a great match to watch and a great finale."
The match against Oberlin was the Barons last match of their non-traditional fall 2013 season. Ellis said that the fall matches scheduled are intentionally very difficult, to help prepare the team for the full spring season.
"The guys to do that to get some good competition," Ellis said.
The Barons tennis team will continue to practice and prepare for their tradition season this spring.
