Box Score WHEELING, W. Va. – Weather implications kept the
Franciscan University men's tennis team from once again
playing in front of a home crowd. This marks the third home game in
a row where the Barons had to change their match location. FUS beat
Mount Aloysius College 9-0 on indoor courts in Wheeling, West
Virginia.
“Games like these force us to be mentally tough the entire
game,” head coach Jeremy Ellis said. “It can be easy to
get distracted and think about other things, but we pushed hard and
grabbed the victory.”
All of the Barons won all their singles and doubles matches
against the Mounties. In addition, FUS displayed what Ellis said
could potentially one of the strongest doubles teams the program
has ever seen. Sophomore John Shultis and Freshman David Freytaq
blanked their opponent twice winning 8-0 both times.
“They could be the best team our program has ever
had,” Ellis said. “It is all about clicking and they
move so well together and they are only going to get
better.”
The Barons hope to display their team-wide strengths after
nearly two and a half weeks of upcoming away games.
“We are eager to play in front of the home crowd,”
Ellis said. “The biggest thing is to have fun and we want to
do that at home. We want to make as much out of our success as
possible.”
The Barons will kick off their road stretch at West
Virginia's Bethany College on April 4 at 1:00 p.m.
