CRESSON, Pa. -- It was a
tough double header for the Franciscan University women's
softball team as they lost to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate
Conference opponent Mount Aloysius, 16-0 and 8-0.
After earning zero hits
from their batters in the first game, Franciscan gained more
confidence and had a strong performance from the plate. They even
displayed better poise in their pitching game, but it was not
enough to over come their opponent.
“We didn't have our heads in the first game,”
head coach Jen Parker said. “We played with more confidence
in the second have but we still gave away unearned runs and we put
a lot of their runners in scoring positions.”
While their batting and fielding struggled, FUS did find success
in its pitching with freshmen Shannon Sommers and Molly
Clarahan.
“I want to do my job for my teammates,” Clarahan
said. “It's important for me to give 100 percent no
matter what the outcome. When the pitcher does well it can help
motivate the whole team.”
Clarahan helped her team momentarily stop the bleeding when she
pushed through multiple strike outs to end the Mountie scoring
streaks. While the pitching was strong for FUS, it was
necessary for the Lady Barons to play strong in all aspects of the
game at the same time, which tonight they could not do.
“Our fielding did not support our pitching,” Parker
said. “All the girls play 110 percent, but they play it in
different games. If we can get them in sync, we will start getting
wins. The girls are remaining positive and we will move forward and
bring some wins before the end of the season.”
The Lady Barons will have that opportunity in their next game at
home against Penn State-Altoona on April 12 at 3:00 p.m.
