Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio- Continuing their four game winning streak, the Franciscan University Barons fought through the cold and windy weather to beat Westminster, 8-1. The Barons won all singles matches and first and second doubles, but the third doubles team fell to the Titans.
"It's cold and windy. It's terrible," said head coach Jeremy Ellis. "It makes tennis hard and is the worst conditions, but they adapted well. I'm proud of how they played, especially Freytag."
Freshman David Freytag, after losing his first set 4-1, came back to win his number five singles match in the second set 7-5 and third set 6-2.
"It was just confidence and getting the ball over," Freytag said. "My returns were really good and gave me good motivation."
The number one doubles team for Franciscan, junior Brian Robau and sophomore captain Paul Jarzynka, played well and ended up dominating their opponents.
"Brian and Paul are playing well together. It's their best year yet," Ellis said. "They are doing great with finishing up points and not making any errors, which is huge in doubles."
Jarzynka also did well in number one singles, winning his match in two sets.
"We played really well in doubles. Getting our serves in and our hits in, having a lot of energy and intensity," Jarzynka said. "Singles I came out and did the same. I held my service games and was focused on my returns."
The Barons looked strong and are looking ready to head into Conference.
"We're really focused on conference coming up," Jarzynka said. "We have great team chemistry and are playing really well right now as a team."
The Barons will try to take the momentum from another win into their first conference game at home against D'Youville College Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
"The team is looking great for conference," Ellis said. "The team is playing well, and things are going great."
