Box Score 2 ERIE, Pa. – Franciscan University softball fell to the
Penn State Behrend Lions 13-1 and 12-0 in an away
doubleheader.
The first game started out unsuccessful for the Lady Barons. FUS
went scoreless while Behrend Lions scoring four unearned runs in
the first inning.
The second inning started out strong with freshman third baseman
Hailey Wesselman hitting a double to centerfield but was later
thrown out at home. By the end of the fourth inning, the Lions had
scored eight more runs without any scoring from Franciscan.
In the top of the fifth inning, junior leftfielder Rosemary
Cassidy hit a double to right field, hitting freshman Eloise Rover
home for Franciscan's only run of the game.
“It was really just an unspectacular game,” head
coach Jen Parker said. “We were not aggressive in the
batter's box and we had a lot of errors. We need to start
communicating better.”
The second game was another loss for Franciscan. Pitcher Eloise
Rover pitched both games of the doubleheader and finished the day
strong but began with multiple walks.
“Eloise played fairly well for having to pitch two
games,” Parker said. “She finished off well but we were
still letting people get on base and that is never a good
thing.”
The second inning featured a single from senior captain and
centerfielder Amanda Ruwart and the fourth inning saw a single from
sophomore second baseman Katrina Fabian, but neither could score
after getting on base. Errors and lack of communication led to weak
defensive play from FUS.
“We really need to adjust and correct our errors,”
Parker said. “That's what's costing us the game
every time. We also keep leaving runners stranded. We need to focus
and fix these things if we want to improve. I am hoping we can do
that at practice and really work on getting through it.”
The Lady Barons will play next in a doubleheader against Hilbert
College at home on Saturday, April 27, at 1 and 3 p.m.
