ERIE, Pa. – It was a quick day for the Franciscan University track team who represented themselves in impressive fashion at Penn State Behrend. Multiple runners broke their personal best marks making the Barons look dominant in pristine weather conditions.
"It was short and sweet," head coach Vince Oliver said. "The weather was perfect and we really brought all we had."
Junior Jacob Baugher brought his all in the 200 meter race where he not only achieved a PR with a time of 22.84 but also set the new University record.
"I have been running really well in practice this week," Baugher said of his preparation. "I didn't feel very well this morning but I fought through it and had a strong day."
Another Baron runner that out performed the competition was Chris Hoff who ran the 400 hurdles in one minute, shaving nearly five seconds off his previous best time. Hoff followed suit with Baugher by also setting the school record for his event.
Senior Jack Kaiser battled back pains in the meet and finished a strong third in the 1500 meter race. Kaiser was not sure if he was going to run but met the challenge head on to power through to a strong finish.
On the women's side, freshman Kristin Mack debuted in the discus throw and threw just over 20 meters for the first time since getting back into the sport.
Lady Baron Kaitlyn Hoffman also set a new school record in the 200m with a time of 27.89.
"I'm just so lucky to be here," Oliver said in a post-meet address to his team. "Seriously, I thank God everyday and I want to make it clear every week how proud I am of you guys and how genuinely impressed I am of your talent. We can beat anybody if we put our heads to it."
The Barons squad is showing support for their star athlete Bill Jones who is headed to Nationals for the 10K race.
The track and field team's next meet is at Allegheny College for the Gator Invitational on May 10.
