Depleted Roster and Div. II Foe Too Much for Barons

Box Score

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's lacrosse team fought Division II Walsh University, loosing 19-1. The Barons suffered a hard hit to their starting lineup before the game with only 14 players dressed for the game.

"Our lineup was pretty light for a college team," head coach Pete Rosaschi said about the obstacles his team faced, adding that he was proud of how his team played. "Today we played with a lot of courage and heart,"

Despite their low numbers, the Barons played patiently in the first half but unforced turnovers allowed the Cavaliers to score 9 goals in the first 30 minutes. Franciscan's lone goal came from an unassisted effort by freshman midfielder Sebastian Olsen.

With almost no subs available, it became harder and harder for the Barons to keep up with the Cavaliers.

"The first half was pretty close," Rosaschi said. "But in the second half we became tired and did not execute to our full capabilities."

Also due to injuries, freshman Matthew Wilson took over on faceoffs and fought hard against Walsh's more experienced faceoff man.

"Wilson did a great job," Rosaschi said. "He has a great heart and was very helpful. He kept Walsh's man tied up."

Franciscan's goalie, Evan Malchano had yet another impressive performance, blocking a strong percentage of the shots faced despite the final score.

"Walsh came out firing," Rosaschi said. "They were shooting point blank range, yet Evan had a solid game in goal. It doesn't appear accurately in the score because of the number of shots taken, but Evan played a great game."

FUS will play at home on April 13 against Baldwin Wallace at 1 pm.
