Women's Tennis Beats Bethany College for Fourth Win

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Lady Barons tennis took its fourth win of the 2013 season against Bethany College, with a final score of 8-1. The team once again impressed their Head Coach, Jenna Lynch, with their mental stamina and refined gameplay.

"I'm super proud of the way the girls played today, specifically the no. 2 doubles, Ashley Veazey and Claire Haddad. They really played a very clean, strategic match," Lynch said. "They really had it together today."

After winning 8-0 in the doubles set, freshmen Claire Haddad continued to shine throughout her singles match—with a 6-4; 6-0 win.

"I asked her to really challenge herself mentally for the second set and she did exactly that. She challenged herself in the middle of the match to play her game and not the opponents," Lynch said. "Claire clearly pulled it together and kept it together in the second set. She looked like a completely different tennis player."

Although Lynch had seemed to have settled into a specific line up for the 2013 season, freshman Caroline Wilson and freshman Allison Jenson were placed in the no. 3 doubles spot over the normal no. 3 paring.

"I really wanted to give my other very dedicated players match time," Lynch said.

Lynch said that since Bethany was a non-conference opponent, she wanted to give some other players a chance to gain match time in different lineup positions. No. 3 doubles won 8-0 in their set.

The Lady Barons will play their rescheduled match against Westminster College this Saturday. Lynch said that Westminster has always been a difficult opponent, and that the week ahead will require a lot of hard work and preparation for the upcoming match.
