STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Lady Barons tennis lost 8-1 against one of the seasons more challenging opponents, Westminster College. Head Coach Jenna Lynch said that going into the match, FUS knew the Titans would be a difficult team to beat.
"They were nervous because they knew it would be a real challenge," Lynch said. "They didn't come off real strong right out of the gate."
Lynch said although the team started slow slowly, the loss was a good learning experience for the team—especially at this midpoint in the 2013 season.
"This usually happens to us because there's so much jam-packed in such a short season," Lynch said. "I think that we kind of got stuck in a mid-season lull. We need to buckle down and recommit to a higher level of intensity."
Despite the loss, freshman Erin Coyne displayed impressive focus at the end of the night in her no. 6 singles slot. Coyne's match came down to a third set tiebreaker, which she won.
"She had the mental stamina to pull through and remain consistent," Lynch said. "Instead of letting the pressure get to her."
The match starts a run of four matches in four days for the Lady Barons. Lynch said her girls need to learn from the loss and make a strong comeback for the next few days.
"We have three more matches this weekend, so it's going to be really important that we don't let this loss get to us," Lynch said. "I hope we can shake it off and come out strong."
The Lady Barons will kick off this jam-packed weekend tomorrow at University of Pitt-Greensburg, at 5pm.
