Women's Tennis Comes Back to Win Big Conference Match

Box Score

CRESSON, Pa. – In their fourth match in a row, the Lady Barons closed the weekend with a close 6-3 win over conference opponent Mt. Aloysius College. After having lost two of the four matches this weekend, Head Coach Jenna Lynch said the win helped keep her team positive.

"Today was an awesome mental victory for us," Lynch said. "It shows a lot about the positive of having four matches in a row."

The match was particularly important with the Mounties holding the second place ranking in the conference at 6-1 and the Lady Barons holding the third place rankings at 4-1.

After doubles play, Franciscan found themselves down 2-1 and needing a strong performance in singles play to get a comeback win.

They did just that by winning five of the six singles matches with a specifically strong performance from no. 3 singles player, Renata Crespo. Crespo battled through her match all the way to a challenging 11-9 win in a third set tiebreaker that was ultimately the difference in the match.

"Renata's forehand was really strong," Lynch said. "And there's nothing more challenging than a third set tiebreaker."

The Lady Barons hope to continue to learn and grow stronger as a team through each match, win or lose.

"I think we need to do a lot of repetition to build up and maintain confidence in our strokes," Lynch said, "Our goal from here on out will be to continue to get stronger."

Now alone at second place in the conference, the Lady Barons look to solidify their spot in the AMCC playoffs with a home win over conference opponent D'Youville College on October 4, at 4pm.
