STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Franciscan University women's tennis played a double-head home match and came away with one win and one loss. The Lady Barons lost to Division II Bluefield State College but proved their stamina and depth against conference opponent Medaille College.

The first match of the day served as a testing ground for the Lady Barons and put up a strong fight against the Blues. Bluefield won the match 5-4, but Head Coach Jenna Lynch said she was happy with how her team stacked up to their Division II foe.

"They really held their own," Lynch said. "I was super impressed with some of the points they played out and some of the points they closed out."

Lynch said she was particularly proud no. 1 singles player Caeles Crunkleton-Wilson, who beat the Blues best singles player in a third set tiebreaker, and no. 4 Renata Crespo, for playing their best against a difficult opponent.

"It was the best match I've seen her play in her Franciscan career. She was the quickest I've ever seen her," Lynch said of Crunkleton-Wilson. "Renata Crespo played really well. She ended up losing, but battled each point out. She played the best tennis I've seen her play since the beginning of the season."

The Lady Barons broke briefly before beginning their second match of the day against conference opponent, Medaille College. Despite the exhaustion of playing two matches back to back and different levels of game play between Bluefield and Medaille, the girls maintained their physical and mental stamina—beating Medaille 8-1.

"It was really difficult going from the Division II match to the conference match because the levels of play were completely different," Lynch said. "They had to generate their own pace on the second match, which is often way harder to do than playing at the pace of your opponent's ball."

The Lady Barons will play at La Roche College Sunday, September 8, where Lynch hopes to come out strong right from the start.
