Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa.-- The Lady Barons Tennis Team finished the weekend on a strong note this afternoon when they shut-out La Roche College 9-0, bringing their record to 3-2. FUS saw strong performances from the entire team, but the no. 3 doubles team shone particularly brightly.
Much like Franciscan, who added eight freshman to their roster, the La Roche Redhawks have many new faces this year, making it difficult to know what to expect for the match.
"We're both very young teams, so we didn't have many expectations about how we would match up against them," Head Coach Jenna Lynch said. "But I think that ended up giving us a competitive mental edge."
Despite the early loss to Bluefield State in the first match of the weekend, Lynch believes that condensing three matches in one weekend helped the girls have clean, focused gameplay today.
The Lady Barons have shown that consistency is one of their many strengths. This was especially displayed by the no. 3 doubles team of Lucia Neugebauer and Kelly Chambers and no. 6 singles player, Allison Jenson, who haven't lost a set this season.
"You never know what level that no. 6 will be at," Lynch said of Jenson. "She's maintained her game regardless of her opponent, and that says a lot about her and her mental toughness."
Next, the Lady Barons will take on long term opponent Westminster College on September 13th. Lynch looks ahead to a week of hard work for the Lady Barons, as this up-and-coming team prepares for the difficult match ahead.
