Box Score HAMBURG, NY – It just wasn't Franciscan's night as the FUS women's basketball team shot
just 26.9 percent from the field while falling to Hilbert College 69-54.
To compound the Lady Baron's shooting problems the Hilbert Hawks came out hot, shooting 50
percent from the floor including four for seven from behind the three-point arc.
"We were out of sink. We didn't shoot well. It was just frustrating," head coach Suzy Delaney
said.
Despite the lopsided shooting differential, Franciscan was able to keep the game relatively close
and was only down by 10 with seven minutes to go. In an effort to counteract their offensive
struggles, FUS forced 22 turnovers but could only convert those into 15 points.
Senior point guard Helen Raines had the best offensive performance for the Lady Barons,
scoring 14 points off of a four for nine shooting performance. Both sophomore Dani Link and
junior Lacey Huck came close to a double-double; Link had eight points and 10 rebounds, while
Huck had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Ultimately there were just too many missed shots on Franciscan's end. Delaney said the best
thing for her team to do is to put the game out of their mind and get ready for the next one.
"We can't spend too much time thinking about this game," Delaney said. "I just told the girls we
have to mentally prepare for Wednesday's game against Pitt-Bradford. We have to just keep
increasing our mental toughness."
Franciscan will travel to play the Pitt-Bradford Panthers on Wednesday, January 29 at 8 pm.
