Big Game for Sullivan Not Enough for Baron Win

Box Score

HAMBURG, N.Y.—Following their third conference win of the season, the Franciscan University men's basketball team lost to the leading Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Team, Hilbert College, on the road with a final score of 88-68.

The Barons began the game ahead with a jumper from big man Joseph Rine but were quickly overtaken by a three-point shot from the Hawks, who continued 52.4 percent from behind the three point line throughout the game. FUS responded with several buckets from Rine and but trailed by ten points for the remainder of the first half, falling a further ten in the second.

"We just came out flat," head coach John Lamanna said. "We ended with a good field goal percentage, but defensively we were very poor. We let them do whatever they wanted to do and there was not much resistance."

Despite their defensive struggles, FUS guard Moses Sullivan kept the Baron offense alive, leading the team with 21 points. Sullivan maintained a 57.1 three-point field goal percentage with 4-7 and a solid 80% from the free-throw line with 5-6.

Lamanna said that Sullivan's effort held the team together.

Rine also put forth a strong effort down low, playing a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

This was second time in a row the team met with difficulty on the road following a home-game success, something Lamanna attributed to the program's growing pains.

"We're still learning and still have a long way to go," Lamanna said.

The Barons next travel to play the University of Pitt-Greensburg on January 29th. Tip-off is scheduled for 6ppm.
