Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. - Despite an aggressive nine point run in the second half after being down 33-21 at half time, the Lady Barons couldn't overtake conference opponent D'Youville College losing 71-56.
The Baron's offense shot only 32.1 percent in the first half, but managed to keep the Spartans within range in the second. Towards the end of the first half D'Youville raced to a 13-point lead, after making some key rebounds and steals.
"We had some good looks in the first half but just couldn't cash them in," head coach Suzy Delaney said. "They got some second shots and we were caught flat on the defensive end."
At half time Franciscan made some defensive changes looking to play more man-to-man in hopes to keep the Spartans from another run. It worked at the start of the first half as Barons' made a nine point run coming within four points of their opponent.
"In the second half, we attacked better on offense and got some higher percentage shots," Delaney said.
Junior forward Lacey Huck led the team with 15 points and 12 rebounds securing another double-double and sophomore Dani Link landed some clean shots to help their second half run ending the game with 14 points.
"Lacey played solid and she had some nice shots," Delaney said. "Dani also had some great buckets to help us, especially as we had that rally in the second half to cut it to four."
Franciscan ran into trouble when Link fouled out and Huck and freshman Katie Rhodes had four fouls each. Taking advantage of the free points the Spartans shot 70.2% from the foul line and raced to a 15 point lead.
The Lady Barons will face Grove City College, rescheduled due to a weather cancellation, Monday Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
