Box Score ALTOONA, Pa.—The Lady Barons tennis team battled back and forth against conference opponent Penn St. Altoona, emerging victorious 5-4.
Following a long bus ride, the Lady Barons took time to warm up but increased in speed and agility as the match went on.
After Alli Jensen and Erin Coyne's opened up no. 2 doubles with an 8-5 win, the Lady Barons began to fight set to set to win the match followed slower paced doubles with successful singles matches.
"We had some really close matches and not so close matches. Everybody played really well in singles," said Head Coach Jenna Lynch.
Sophomore Alli Jensen especially stood out in her no.4 singles 6-1, 6-0 win.
"Alli did a really great job closing out and finishing where she needed to finish, Lynch said. "She looked really refined and well-practiced."
Though defeated in her second set of no.2 singles, sophomore Ashley Veazey stepped up to overpower her opponent and send the Lady Barons into victory with a final score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
"Ashley played really well in her set, clean and confident," Lynch said. "She really got into her opponent's head on the first set and her player thought it was going to be an easier match, but Ashley was just so strong on her third set."
Spurred on by their victory, the Lady Barons tennis team will next play AMCC opponent Mt. Aloysius College at 11am on September 28 on their home court.
