STEUBENVILLE, Ohio–The Lady Barons tennis team swept Mt. Aloysius College in a 9-0 victory. Playing into the afternoon, the Lady Barons emerged victorious in all three doubles sets. With an energetic group of players, the doubles teams played tactically: demonstrating their confidence and stability.

"They really brought a lot from practice into this match," said Head Coach Jenna Lynch. "They really fought with strategy and that is what takes to win a match."

The Lady Barons took the early doubles victories and ran with them, carrying momentum into their singles matches, where they went undefeated. Stand out player Emmy Mathais (freshman) battled it out in her singles match, winning no.6 singles 6-0, 6-0, after a doubles win (8-0) alongside sophomore Ashley Veazey

"Often times you cannot anticipate the body movements of a player or the racquet and Emmy solely relied on her footwork and agility to win," said Lynch. "She played really well in singles and doubles, and she has greatly improved playing at a higher level."

At the opposite end of the court, Senior Allana Murray won her no. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-1. Murray's win was valiantly fought and constant, similar to her leading style as Co-Team Captain.

"She leads very subtly with a quiet but intense heart that shows her team how to be competitive despite the circumstances," said Lynch. "She doesn't let her emotions dictate her behavior. She is constant, and that is very hard to find in a college student."

Reflecting off the successful match, Head Coach Jenna Lynch was impressed by her team's consistency and their love of the game. Looking forward to the upcoming matches, Lynch is confident in her team's ability and their mental toughness.

"There is nothing like tennis. You have to draw your own energy especially in singles. When playing, you are in a solitary confinement of the mind and you have to psychologically bring yourself up despite the variables. It's all up to you."

The Lady Barons will next play Bethany College on September 30 at 4pm.
