Women's Tennis Continues to Sweep Conference Play With 9-0 Win

BUFFALO, NY. — Lady Baron tennis won their third match of the season win a 9-0 win over conference opponent Medaille College. Bringing confidence and another new line-up the Lady Barons fought to success. Interim Head Coach Maura Conant enjoyed watching them play.

"This match was good. We finished 9-0 and we had a slight change in line-up due to some injuries," Conant said.

Despite the line-up shift Franciscan was able to maintain their chemistry in doubles, winning all three matches and building their momentum for singles.

Carrying energy and confidence from her first singles win the day before, senior Alanna Murray won her second match of the season at 2-6, 6-0, 7-5. Murray's confidence and experience were able help her overcome the first-set loss and rebounded with a dominant second set.

"I was feeling good today and more confident after yesterday's match," Murray said. "She was a hard-hitter but I was able to confidently compete with her."

Sophomore Ashley Veazey continued to look stronger and stronger after being injured in preseason and won her match 6-0, 6-0. She said her teammates played even better than they did in their 9-0 win over D'Youville the day before.

"Everyone came out very solid and played some awesome tennis. We started getting into our game a lot faster than last match," Veazey said. "We were excited to take care of business. We were in control and it was a match where we were able to try new things out."

Freshman Anna O'Connor was moved to the no. 5 singles and beat her opponent 6-0, 6-0, putting her at 4-0 in singles play this season. O'Connor said she felt comfortable despite the change in line-up.

"Since I actually played no.5 my first match, I felt a little more comfortable this time around and I was not very nervous," O'Connor said. "I enjoyed the match."

The Lady Baron's will next play on their home court against Penn St. Behrend at 1pm on Saturday, September 13.
