Men's Cross Country Runs to Ninth Place Finish, Women Take 15th

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Franciscan University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Carnegie Mellon Invite Saturday afternoon. The men's team took ninth place while the women came in 15th.

Freshman Joe Gallagher once again paced the men's team as he finished 59th and was the second AMCC runner to cross the finish line. Gallagher posted an impressive time of 27:32.9, just 10 seconds off his fastest time of the season.

The next three Barons runners finished within five seconds of each other as freshman Nick Long crossed the line at 28:02.6 with sophomores Graham Martin (28:06.7) and Tim Jackson (28:07.9) close behind for the second, third and fourth runners from FUS. 

Freshman Grady Stuckman finished 92nd with a time of 28:29.1 while senior John Redmond (29:32.0) and junior David Byers (29:53.1) rounded out the scoring runners for the Barons.

The women were led by freshman Angela Penza with a time of 22:04.5 while classmate Emily Theurer was right on her heels with a time of 22:04.8. Junior Lauren Schubilske was the third FUS runner to cross the finish line at 22:07.2.

Senior Jenni Gray took fourth for the Lady Barons and 162 overall with a time of 23:23.9 while sophomore Francesco Santos (23:34.8) took fifth for the Lady Barons and 166th overall.

Senior Hannah Reichart crossed the line at 24:14.6 to take 179th and senior Holly Baca rounded out the Lady Barons's scoring runners with a time of 24:35.5.

The cross country teams return to action next Saturday as they compete in the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
