Box Score Buffalo, NY- The Franciscan women's soccer faced off against Medaille on Sunday afternoon, and though the Lady Barons battled hard, the Mavericks came away with a 1-0 win at their home field. This loss dropped the Lady Barons to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in the AMCC.
The Barons controlled most of the game on the Mavericks side of the field. They had 16 shots, eight shots on goal and had six corner kick opportunities. The Lady Barons' ambitious attacks resulted in nine off-sides, halting their opportunities to score.
The Mavericks had fewer opportunities on the offensive side of the field, but finished enough shots for the win. Medaille had six shots with four hitting the net. The Mavericks had two corner kicks and were flagged with five off-sides. The Mavericks capitalized on one of their few attacks when senior Candis Kapuscinski sent a through ball in which found sophomore Kayln Compeau, who finished the ball for the deciding goal of the game.
"We had control of the game and nice build up. Our whole team played well. Off-sides really hurt us and we struggled to finish," head coach Clare McBane remarked. "Shooting is not a strength yet, so we just need to continue to practice."
The Barons started a different goalie in the net today. Jasmine Florentino defended the goal while Sarah Luebking played in the field. "Jasmine is a good goalie and we wanted to give her some playing time. Sarah did a nice job for us offensively in the field," Coach noted on the change in the lineup.
The Lady Barons have a week off to practice finishing their shots before they return home on Saturday at 3:15 pm. The Lady Barons will host Hilbert College for their Senior Day and Jersey Ceremony.
