Box Score BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Four second half goals led Geneva College past the Franciscan University men's soccer team Tuesday night as the Barons fell to the Golden Tornadoes, 6-0.
The Barons slipped to 4-9 on the year.
Franciscan found itself down 2-0 after a pair of Golden Tornado goals in the first half. "They are a very good team," remarked head coach Ward Rogers. "They were very good at set pieces and earned a lot of corner kicks which put the pressure on us."
The Golden Tornadoes earned nine corner kicks in the first half and were able to convert two of them for a 2-0 lead after the first 45 minutes.
Geneva tacked four more goals in the second half, though the Barons were able to clear out three GC corners.
"This was one of our better possesson time games," continued coach Rogers. "We did a good job of getting into dangerous spots on the field, we are putting the ball where we want it, we just are not shooting."
"We try to get the perfect pass sometimes in of just shooting and getting the ball on goal.
The Golden Tornadoes out-shot the Barons 23-10 while GC held a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks. "They were very good at compacting the field. When we got the ball in the center of the field they would compact on us. Sometimes you just need to shoot."
Freshman keeper John Bolster made five saves in hs collegiate debut. "Our freshman keeper was put in a tough situation today and made some nice plays in net."
The Barons return home on Saturday as they honor their seniors prior to the match against Hilbert. The two teams square off at 1:00 pm.
