Women's Soccer Rolls Past Hilbert on Senior Day

Box Score

Steubenville, OH- It was a blustery, cold fall day out on the field as the Lady Barons honored their four seniors Monica Dawyot, Calene Dougherty, Mary Duran and Hannah Cooke prior to the game against Hilbert College. FUS came out on top with a 6-0 win, improving its AMCC record to 2-4 and overall to 6-7.

"Our seniors are really solid girls. All four are starters and very talented athletes who have dedicated a lot of time and energy to this program," head coach Clare McBane praised the seniors today.

"I think that each one of them was a leader in the position that they played. They were an example of athleticism, hard work and how to play as a teammate. They are the stronghold of the team and help to keep the team centered on playing for the glory of God and how to play soccer well."

Franciscan dominated the play and swung the ball around with precision and accuracy. The scoring began when Elizabeth Dawyot crossed the ball to Megan Luiso for the goal. Not long after, Clare Kennedy found the right side of the net open with the assistance of Dawyot and Megan Riederer. Emily Wieszczek who came off the bench, received the ball from Dawyot and dribbled it up the right side. She fought hard for position with the defender and earned her goal when she shot the ball through the goalie's legs.

The other three goals were scored by Anna McCarty earning a hat-trick for the game. Dawyot sent a ball to Luiso who chased it down and crossed it to McCarty who finished it. Her next goal resulted from a through ball from Kennedy which she sent into the opposite side of the net. The Kennedy-McCarty duo struck again on the next trip down the field, with almost the same play as before. Kennedy crossed to McCarty, McCarty finished for the goal.

"I'm proud of the team in general for finishing the play which is constantly the goal.  When we took out the starters in the second half, we took a step back in scoring, but our goal was to swing the ball around and get our younger girls used to what that feels like. They did a phenomenal job with that. I'm proud of them for coming out and playing strong," Coach McBane mentioned about her underclassmen.

The Barons take on University of Ptt.-Grennsburg this coming Wednesday, October 28 at home at 4:15 pm.
