Lady Barons Battle Spartans to a Tie

Box Score

Buffalo, NY- The women's soccer team visited D'Youville College resulting in a stalemate, 1-1.

The Spartans took advantage of the shooting in the second half and into the two overtimes, pushing their total shots to 27. The Barons shot the ball 15 times and edged the opponent in corner kicks, 7-6. Sarah Luebking snagged 12 saves for FUS, while Megan Dulnik brought in six for DYC.

Both teams created their scoring opportunities in the second half. Emily Carias for the Spartans began the scoring with her unassisted goal when she slipped past Luebking outside the goalie box. The Barons answered the goal with one of their own. With eight minutes left in regulation, Elizabeth Dawyot sent a beautiful ball from outside the box which Dulnik tipped.  Megan Luiso came in strong scoring the rebound to tie the game.

"Our scoring has really improved since the beginning of the season. Megan's goal tonight was very high quality," Coach McBane emphasized.

Neither team could put another ball in the net, resulting in overtime. The playing continued neck-and-neck until the second overtime clock ran out without a winner.

"The girls handled the loss of another starter. Midfielder Elizabeth Krilich was out for today's game, so we had to change some of the lineup. The team did a lot of adjusting without being able to feed Krilich in the middle.
"We struggled with not finishing our corner kicks especially since Krilich usually takes them. But the girls did an excellent job filling this spot. We also tired out in overtime. This was our second game in a row to go into double overtime," McBane commented on the game.

Since Altoona lost today, this tie keeps the Barons in the playoff hunt if they can win their next match. The Barons travel to La Roche College for their last game of the regular season on Tuesday, October 27.
