Box Score Pittsburgh, Pa.- The Lady Barons put up a good fight against La Roche Redhawks but fell a goal short of the win and of advancing to the AMCC tournament. LAR scored a goal in the final 10 minutes to win the regular season finale, 1-0.
The entire game was tied at zero until nine minutes left. La Roche's Vanessa Ceravolo took a penalty kick which Sarah Luebking deflected from crossing the goal line. However Taylor Tokarski was there to score the rebound for the winning goalto give La Roche the 1-0 win
The game was evenly matched with similar opportunities, although the Barons possessed the ball more often than their opponent. The hosting team shot 14 times while Franciscan edged past them at 17. Luebking brought in seven saves for the Barons. FUS had many quality shots and opportunities with balls hitting the crossbar, but the Lady Barons could not snag a goal.
"I'm really proud of the team. The defense recovered from some very scary shots at the beginning of the game. Everyone has improved all season. Our young offense has really developed under the guidance of our seniors. Tonight I felt like our offense played the best they have all season. Unfortunately we didn't finish," head coach Clare McBane commented on today's match.
The 2015 soccer season for the ladies has now finished. Their season record is 6-8-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the conference. The Lady Barons had eight spots to fill at the start of this season, which they accomplished very well. At the beginning of the season, they were young and inexperienced. By the end, these girls were playing and working hard together as a team. Coach McBane shared some final remarks on the season by saying, "We will definitely miss our four seniors. They helped to ground this team. We need to continue to grow and there are lots of areas of improvement for next season."
