ERIE, Pa. – The men's and women's cross country teams each placed their five scoring runners in the top-20 as both teams took home second place in the 2015 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship meet, Saturday afternoon.
Penn State Behrend won its fourth-straight AMCC men's title with 19 points while Pitt-Greensburg captured third with 82 points.
Freshman Joe Gallagher once again paced the men's team as he finished third overall but was the second scoring runner to cross the line at 27:20.0. Sophomore Graham Martin finished just behind Gallagher at 27:59.40.
Sophomore Tim Jackson pushed his way to a top-five finish for the Barons as he came in 11th overall with a time of 28:18.5. Junior David Byers captured 13th overall at 29:02.9.
Freshman Grady Stuckman rounded out the Barons top-five scoring runners with a 14th overall time of 29:04.80.
Senior John Redmond and freshman Antonio Sierra completed the top runners for the Barons with a 15th and 16th overall place, respectively. Redmond posted a time of 29:09.0, narrowly missing fifth for the Barons while Sierra finished the 8k-race at 30:07.60.
On the women's side, Penn State Behrend took its sixth title with 31 points while Franciscan took second with 58 points and Penn State Altoona took third with 94 points.
Leading the Lady Baron runners was freshman Diedre Coyle for the second-straight race. Coyle was the second runner to cross the finish line at 24:17.5. Classmate Emily Theurer came in seventh overall with a time of 25:43.1.
Junior Lauren Schubilske came in third for FUS and 14th overall with a time of 26:18.2 with freshman Angela Penza right behind at 26:49.1 for a 16th place finish.
Junior Therese Thomason rounded out the top-five runners for the Lady Barons with a time of 27:23.9 for a 19th overall place finish.
Sophomore Francesco Santos and senior Holly Baca rounded out the top-seven runners for a 25th place finish and a 28th place finish, respectively.
Santos took 25th with a time of 28:09.6 while Baca completed the 6k with a time of 28:26.2.
The cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Division III Regional hosted by Dickinson College at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa. on November 14.
