Box Score MUSKINGUM, Ohio – Sophomore Keoni Sablan posted the second-most points in his career but the Franciscan men's basketball team fell to Muskingum, 86-60, Saturday afternoon.
Sablan finished the day with 17 points for FUS (0-2), including three three-pointers, and added three rebounds and three assists. Senior Christian Duke was the only other Baron to score in double digits as he added 11 points.
The Barons took an 8-7 lead to open the first half as four different players scored in the first 3:27, but Muskingum went on a 14-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 20-9 lead just before the halfway mark of the opening period.
Sablan closed out the half with five points in the final 1:19 to cut the lead to 43-21, but Brenden Mathews hit a jumper in the final second of the half to give Muskingum a 45-21 lead at the break.
After a layup from Joshua Glass gave Muskingum a 47-21 lead, Sablan hit his second three-pointer just under a minute into the second half.
Muskingum then made three-straight threes to kick off a 12-2 run that put Muskingum up 60-26 with 15 minutes to play in regulation. With seven minutes left, the Muskies took their largest lead of the game as Jayson Peoples hit a three-pointer to give MU a 77-39 lead over the Barons.
Sablan drained his third three of the game with 6:46 to play before sophomore Daniel McElroy converted a pair of layups to cut the deficit to 79-46.
The Barons out-scored the Muskies 14-7 in the final five minutes of the game, however Muskingum scored six of the game's final eight points to seal the 86-60 win.
Sophomore John Paul Dombrowski led all players with seven rebounds.
The Barons return to action when they travel to Winchester, Va. for the BB&T Classic over Thanksgiving Weekend. FUS takes on Shenandoah on Saturday at 8:00 pm. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the Elizabethtown/William Peace game on Sunday while the two losers play as well.
