Duke Nets 15; Barons Fall to UPB

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Franciscan men's basketball team fell to Pitt.-Bradford 83-59 in its second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game, Saturday afternoon.

Junior Jacob Divens opened the game with a three-pointer and sophomore Keoni Sablan answered each of Pitt.-Bradford's layups with one of his own in the first 1:20 of action to give Franciscan (1-5, 1-1 AMCC) a 7-4 lead, the largest of the game for the Barons. At the 15:40 mark, sophomore Joseph Rall made a three to give FUS its final lead of the game, 10-9. The Panthers slowly built a lead of their own as they closed out the first half with a 34-23 advantage.

Rall sandwiched a pair of layups around UPB's first basket of the second half to cut the lead back to single digits, 36-27, but UPB scored five unanswered points to push its advantage back to double-digits at 41-27 with 16:50 to play.

A layup by Evan Greening at 14:54 kicked off a 14-3 run to give the Panthers a 54-35 lead with just over 12 minutes to play. The next seven minutes were a back and forth affair until Eric Matheson hit a layup to give UPB its first 20-point lead of the game at 68-47 with 5:23 to play.

The Panthers controlled the offensive for the rest of the contest to take a 83-59 victory.

Senior Christian Duke led all Barons with 15 points and eight rebounds while Rall (13 points) and Sablan (11 points) were the only other two Barons in double figures. Sablan paced the Barons with five assists.

The Barons look to rebound as they host Hilbert on December 12 at 2:00 pm.
