Freshmen hit the ground running at Bethany Invitational

BETHANY, W. Va. - The men's and women's cross country teams placed fourth and sixth respectively at the Bethany Invitational meet this Saturday, led by freshmen runners Emily Theurer and Joe Gallagher.

The men's team snagged this victory despite the absence of their top runner from last year, Graham Martin.
"Actually our top three runners were all freshmen so it was a really great day for the freshmen," Kuebler said. "They're a young team, there's a lot of room to improve."
This dynamic trio of freshmen consisted of Joe Gallagher, Nick Long and Grady Stuckman, who each placed seventh, 24th and 26th.
Coach Kuebler was pleased with both teams' performances, commenting that the Women's team had not only ran well but improved their performance since last week.
"The team's improving, which is good to see," Kuebler said.

Once again Emily Theurer led the pack with a 12th-place finish and was followed closely by Deirdre Coyle who placed 19th. Other notable runners were Angela Penza, Lauren Schubilske and Therese Thomason, who placed 41st, 50th and 52nd.
Kuebler also mentioned that course conditions slowed down the teams a little bit.

"The course was really muddy but overall, competitively, we did better than last week."
The next cross country meet is the National Catholic Championships this Friday, September 18 at 2:30 PM. It will take place at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
