Box Score GENEVA, Pa. - The Franciscan women's soccer team traveled to opponent Geneva tonight to defeat the Golden Tornadoes 3-0, improving their record to 4-3. The Lady Barons started off the season slowly with three losses. Since then, they have flipped their record with four straight wins.
Baron's goalie freshman Sarah Leubking had her second shutout of the season. She racked up eight saves tonight for Franciscan. "Sarah played phenomenal. She had a lot of good saves," Coach McBane praised her goal keeper's performance.
When asked what gave the Barons the edge tonight in their win, McBane replied "They had a lot of opportunities, we both did. We just finished better. They tested our team and really showed us lots of areas we need to work on. Our defense also handled their breakaways really well."
The finishing began when freshman Elizabeth Dawyot received a through ball that deflected off of a Geneva player to score the first goal of the evening. A few minutes later Dawyot's senior sister Monica finished a corner kick from Liz Krilich sending the ball in from the 18 yard line.
The final FUS goal came in the beginning of the second half when Anna McCarty won a pass splitting the defensive center backs for Geneva. McCarty then placed a nice ball on net, finishing the goal.
