Sablan Sets Career High in Barons' Loss

ALTOONA, Pa. – Sophomore Keoni Sablan led the Franciscan men's basketball team but his career day was not enough for the Barons as Penn State Altoona walked away with an 83-68 home victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Sablan went off for 31 points and 10 rebounds for the Barons behind 11-for-23 shooting and was 6-for-11 from beyond the arc. Nine of the sophomore's 10 rebounds came off the defensive boards and he chipped in two steals. As a team, the Barons shot 42.2 % (27-for-64) and were 7-for-17 from the free throw line. Junior Jacob Divens tied his season best with 10 assists on the day.

The Lions led for the entire contest and took a 42-28 lead into halftime. Two and half minutes into the second half, PSA pushed its lead to 18, 51-33, it's largest of the game. The Barons hung tough and chipped away at the lead until they were within single digits with 6:05 to play as Sablan made a layup to bring the score to 67-58. The score stayed close and freshman Clay Rokisky hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to eight, 71-63, with 1:39 to play. The two teams then engaged in a free throw battle and the Lions came out on top with a 83-68 victory.

Franciscan looks to earn its second victory in conference as the Barons travel to Buffalo, NY to take on Medaille on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
