Second Half Surge Leads Medaille Past FUS

BUFFALO, NY – A second-half surge led Medaille to a 95-72 win over Franciscan men's basketball, Saturday afternoon.

The Barons led 44-40 at halftime but the Mavericks outscored FUS 55-28 to seal the victory on their home court.

Sophomore Thomas Rush hit a three-pointer with 12:11 to play in the first half to cap a 13-3 run over three minutes to give Franciscan it's largest lead of the game, 22-14. Medaille kept chipping away at the Baron lead but FUS kept the Mavericks at bay and walked into the locker room with a  44-40 lead.

Mike Hollenbeck opened the second half with five unanswered points to give Medaille a 45-44 lead just 43 seconds into the second half. Sophomore John Paul Dombrowski and Chris Willingham traded jumpers and sophomore Richard Cross hit a free throw to tie the game at 47-47 with 18:29 to play. The Mavericks took over from there and pushed their lead to double digits for good with 8:23 to play in the game.

Dombrowski and sophomore Keoni Sablan tied with 14 points to lead the Barons while senior Christian Duke led all players with 11 rebounds. Junior Jacob Divens chipped in 11 points and eight assists.

The Barons return home on Monday, January 18 to host La Roche at 6:00 pm.
