Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Sophomore John Paul Dombrowski went off for a career-high 30 points for his fourth double-double of the year in front of a packed Finnegan Fieldhouse but the La Roche Redhawks spoiled the night with a 101-85 win, Monday evening.
Dombrowski was perfect from the free throw line (4-for-4) for the third time this season and shot 61.9% (13-for-21) from the field in route to his career-best 30 points in 30 minutes on the floor for the Barons. Dombrowski added 11 rebounds, five off the offensive boards, to post his fourth double-double of the year. The sophomore chipped in all five of the Barons blocks to round out his stat line. His five blocks were his highest of the season and the second highest in his career. Dombrowski has recorded at least one block in every game but one this season.
Sophomore Keoni Sablan added 21 points while classmates Thomas Rush and Jonas McCaig added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Junior Jacob Divens handed out a game-high five assists.
The two teams saw the lead change hands five times, all the in the first half. Down 7-5 just two minutes into the game, the Barons used a 14-6 run to build a 19-13 lead, their largest of the game. The Redhawks answered, however, and used seven unanswered points to take the lead, 20-19, with 11:37 to play in the first and were able to keep the lead for the rest of the contest. A Clay Rokisky layup with 10:38 to play cut the lead back to one point, but that would be as close as Franciscan would come for the rest of the game.
Dombrowski scored the final two points of the first half and the first two of the second but the Barons could not overcome the Redhawks high powered offense. Dombrowski scored 20 of his 30 points in the final 20 minutes of action though La Roche seemed to have an answer for each of the sophomore's baskets.
The Barons had their best shooting night of the semester as they went 31-for-59 from the floor (52.5%) and were 10-for-21 (47.6%) from beyond the three-point arc for a season-best 85 points.
Franciscan travels to Mount Aloysius on Thursday as the Barons begin the second half of their conference schedule. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
