Box Score CRESSON, Pa. - Franciscan women's basketball had its lowest offensive production of the season, losing 74-34 on the road to Mount Aloysius College.
The Lady Barons shot a lowly 22.2 percent from the floor (12-of-54), including 15.8 percent from beyond the three-point arc and 38.9 percent from the free-throw line. To make matters worse, Mount Aloysius also dominated the rebounding battle 56-33, resulting in 17 second-chance points for the Mounties.
Mount Aloysius opened up the game on a 10-2 run before the Lady Barons got in a rhythm, outscoring the Mounties 7-5 over the last five minutes of the first quarter.
The Mounties quickly built up a double-digit lead to start the second quarter and outscored Franciscan 25-11 in the quarter, leading by 20 points at halftime.
Sophomore center Lucia Westrick scored the first five points of the second half for the Lady Barons as the third quarter was the most competitive of the game with both teams trading baskets for the entire quarter.
The fourth quarter was a completely different story, however, as the Mounties outscored Franciscan 22-2 in the quarter. With the game in hand, head coach Suzy Delaney put in some of her younger, more inexperienced players into the game for some valuable in-game court time.
Westrick came off the bench and led the Lady Barons, notching her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Guards sophomore Sarah Schriner and Iliana Gonzales were the next leading scorers with six points each.
Franciscan now drops to 5-11 on the season and 4-6 in the conference, remaining in a sixth place tie with Hilbert with eight games left in the season. As the top six teams make the conference tournament at the end of the season, the Lady Barons are still in playoff contention as the team seeks its second postseason appearance in program history.
The Lady Barons will return home for their next game when they host Pitt.-Bradford on Saturday, January 23, at 4 p.m.
