Bradford Pulls Away from Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE – Sophomores John Paul Dombrowski and Keoni Sablan both reached double figures but Pitt-Bradford used a 12-2 run in the final four minutes of the game to go home with a 73-57 win at Kuzma Court, Saturday afternoon.

The first half of the game was hot contested as the two teams battled to a 31-31 tie at halftime. Franciscan pulled away for its largest lead of the game, 18-10, 11:33 in the half after a pair of made shots from junior Jacob Divens. The Panthers chipped away at the lead and eventually took the lead at 20-18 with 7:58 to play.

UPB led by as many as six points but the Barons stayed hunger and sophomore Thomas Rush sandwiched a three and jumper around a layup from Steven Owens to pull FUS to within three, 26-23, with 5:38 to play. Sophomore Daniel McElroy and Dombrowksi each hit both free throws in trips to the free throw line to cut the lead down to two before Dombrowski tied the game with 1:48 to play at 29-29. Sahlil Harris gave UPB the lead, 31-29, with just 1:21 to play but Dombrowski made a layup in the final minute to re-tie the game, 31-31 at the break.

The second half began just as the first ended and the two teams traded six leads in the first 5:24 of the final 20 minutes. The Panthers took the lead for good with a layup from Even Greening at 13:36. A three pointer from Sablan at 7:11 got the Barons as close as they would come for the rest of the game cutting the lead back to five point, 57-52, but the Panthers maintained control for the rest of the half.

Divens hit a long three from the far right corner to cut the Panther lead back to eight points, 63-55, with just four minutes left in the second half before UPB went off for 12-straight points to seal the win. Dombrowksi scored the final bucket of the game with just 13 seconds left on the clock with a short jumper to bring the score to its final, 73-57.

Dombrowski and Sablan each posted 16 points while Dombrowski was one shy of his season-best with 13 rebounds. The forward added four of the team's six blocks as he has recorded a block in every game but one this season. Divens chipped in nine points and four assists.

The Barons take a break from AMCC action as they host Alfred State on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
