Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Sophomore Jonas McCaig poured in a career-high 18 points but the Franciscan men's basketball team fell to AMCC foe, Pitt.-Greensburg, 92-73 Wednesday evening.
McCaig hit four of his seven threes on the day while shooting 50.0% from the floor (7-for-14). Sophomore John Paul Dombrowski posted his second double-double of the season chipping in 10 points and pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds.
Pitt.-Greensburg jumped out to a 14-2 lead before sophomore Jacob Divens notched his first three of the game with 14:28 to play. Freshman Clay Rokisky followed with a layup to cut the Bobcat lead in half, 14-7, a minute later. The two teams traded their next baskets, the Bobcats with a layup while Thomas Rush hit a three-pointer to pull the Barons to within six, 16-10, with 12:57 to go.
The two teams kept the game close before the Bobcats built their largest lead up until that point at 27-16 behind a layup from Marcus Thomas. McCaig single handedly cut the lead back to seven with a pair of three pointers sandwiched around a jumper with 7:09 to play.
McCaig's hot hand kept the Barons close as back-to-back shots, a jumper and three, tied the game at 29-29 with just under five to play. Jerell Figueroa answered with a jumper of his own before Rall converted on a layup off a pass from Divens to tie the game again. The Bobcats scored the next 12 points to build the lead back to double digits. Sophomore Keoni Sablan hit the back end of a trip to the foul line for the final points of the first half as the teams took a 47-38 score, in favor of UPG, into the locker room.
The second half played out much like the first as the Barons stayed close until a late run by the Bobcats put the game out of reach.
FUS shot 37.8% (28-74) from the floor while the Bobcats went 39-for-76 (51.3%). The Barons were near perfect at the foul like (7-for-8) while posting seven steals and five blocks as a team.
The Barons head to Erie, Pa. to take on Penn State Behrend in AMCC action on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
