Box Score STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan men's soccer team rolled to its third-straight win as the Barons defeated D'Youville, 4-0, Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Barons improved to 7-3-1 on the year and 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action.
Senior Joe Francis got the scoring started for the Barons with his sixth goal of the season just 11:17 into the game. Sophomore Mark Fioramonti one-timed the ball to Franciscan who shot a bullet into the back of the net from about 15 yards out.
The score would remain 1-0 at the half despite the Barons out-shooting the Spartans, 21-3, in the opening 45.
Freshman Jacob Rigaud scored his first collegiate goal just over 13 minutes into the second half as junior Dominic Vander Woude sent a long pass into the center of the field for Rigaud who shot it over a leaping Spartan keeper from about 40 yards out.
The Barons maintained the 2-0 lead until Vander Woude scored his first goal of the season as Fioramonti send a perfect corner kick into the box and Vander Woude got his head on it and flicked it into the net for the score.
Junior Leo Herrmann put the final touches on the score as he took an initial shot that was saved but reflected directly back to him and he was able to get his head on the ball and send it home to give the Barons a 4-0 win.
Franciscan outshot the Spartans 46-5 and held a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior keeper Thomas Dosedel started the game in net for the Barons and made two saves in the first half while sophomore John Bolster finished off the game with a save as the two combined for their third-straight shutout.
The Barons return to action on Wednesday when they host La Roche at 4:15pm.
