Box Score ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona scored a pair of second-half goals to lift the Lions to a 3-1 win over the Franciscan men's soccer team, Wednesday evening.
Down 3-0 in the second half, senior Joe Francis broke up the pending PSA shutout. Junior Michael Bobak feathered a ball into the box and Francis got the final touch on the ball after a deflection and fired a shot home to cut the lead to 3-1 with just over 20 minutes to play.
The Franciscan offense did not back down despite being down two goals and fired four final shots during the last 15 minutes but could not capitalize and suffered just its second loss in conference action, 3-1.
"We came out a little static in the first as we got used to the turf," remarked head coach Christian Bobak. "The boys responded well in the second, they woke up and played more of our game. The guys were less static and were able to put a lot more pressure on the ball. We let two bad goals in but we played a lot better in the second."
Junior Leo Herrmann and senior Joseph Francis led the Barons with four shots each.
Penn State Altoona held a slight 12-10 advantage in shots and led in corners, 6-3.
"Jude Ledyard had a great game off the bench for us as did Kyle Hames. Michael Bobak played well throughout the game and Ian Baldau was our player of the game today. Ian put a lot of pressure on the ball all over the field and really helped to control the ball for us today."
"It was a good wake-up call today and we'll move on from here."
The Barons return home for their final game of the regular season as they host Medaille on Saturday at 3:15 for their Senior Day.
