Box Score STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan women's soccer team honored its nine graduating players both during and after the game as the Lady Barons rolled to a 5-0 win over Medaille to wrap up the 2016 season.
Immediately following the game, the Lady Barons paid tribute to its six seniors and three juniors who are leaving for an engineering program. Emily Wenner, Olivia Janney and Megan Riederer played their last games for the Lady Barons as they continue their pursuit of an engineering degree while Elizabeth Krilich, Savannah Luebking, Joanna Dawyot, Emily Donahue, Jasmine Florentino, and Kristie Kelly are set to graduate in May.
After a scoreless first half, the Lady Baron offense exploded for five goals. Kelly kicked things off just 7:38 into the second half. Kelly lofted a shot from about 25 yards out into the top left side of the net to give FUS a 1-0 lead.
Just six minutes later, Florentino scored her first career goal as she sent a sharp shot from about 15 yards out into the far right side of the net to push the FUS lead to 2-0. Florentino then handed out an assist on the Lady Barons next goal as she sent a pass to Luebking, right at her foot, and Luebking shot passed the keeper to give FUS a 3-0 lead with 28:33 to play.
Janney got on the scoring train as well as Dawyot sent the ball to her and she lofted a shot over top of the Maverick goalie with 24:30 left.
Krilich was the last Lady Baron to score as she capped the 5-0 win with her first goal of the season as she sent a direct kick in over the Maverick line and over the goalie's head.
Franciscan out-shot the Mavericks 22-7 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Luebking led the Lady Barons with five shots while Riederer had four.
Freshman keeper Glorianne Trippe posted her second-straight shutout and needed just a pair of saves to record the clean sheet.
The Lady Barons wrap up their season with a 6-10-1 record and a 3-5-1 slate in conference.
