Box Score STEUBENVILLE – Prior to the beginning of the game, the Franciscan men's soccer team honored its two seniors but the visiting Medaille Mavericks walked away with a 4-0 win, Saturday afternoon.
The Barons wrap up the regular season with a 10-6-1 record and a 6-3 conference record and have secured a place in the conference tournament beginning next week for the first time in program history.
Medaille scored its first goal just past the halfway point of the first half. After a shot from Lachlan Wilkinson was saved by Franciscan keeper, Thomas Dosedel, the Mavericks were awarded a corner kick. Medaille could not score off the corner but kept possession in their half of the field. Michael Lennox kept control of the ball and curled the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead with 21:50 to play in the first.
The Barons were not without their chances in the first, however, as they had four good looks following the Maverick goal. Freshman Jacob Rigaud got his head on the ball and sent it just high of the crossbar and Duran had his next shot saved to keep the score 1-0 in favor of Medaille.
After a flurry of shots at Dosedel were saved, Rigaud put two more shots towards the goal but the Maverick back line made two good blocks and the score remained 1-0 at the half.
Junior Leo Herrmann got the first shot off of the second half, but it went just wide of the net. With less than 20 minutes to play in the game, Lennox scored his second of the day off an assist from James Lang's corner kick to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead. In the last 10 minutes, the Mavericks tacked on two more goals to bring the score to its final at 4-0.
Dosedel posted a career-high 11 saves for the Barons while Herrmann took five shots and Rigaud three.
The Barons await the final seeding and pairings for the 2016 AMCC tournament.
