STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan rugby team celebrated its seniors in a big way with a nothing short of dominate 80-0 win over Gevena, Saturday afternoon.
The Barons have outscored its opponents 157-36 in 3RRC action this year and are currently 4-0 in conference play and 4-1 on the year.
The ruggers honored its graduating seniors, Ben Erste, Jimmy Kueber, Jack Scanlon, Jeffery Baldwin, Nick Reichert, David Kuefler, Luke Planchet, and Nicholas Vicinanzo, with the most complete and exciting games of the year.
"Our whole team really trusted each other today," complimented head coach Dan Kramer. "We stuck to our game plan today - we wanted to use the width of the pitch and capitalize on the speed of our wings and that's exactly what we did."
Franciscan scored 12 total tries today, six in each half to maintain control of the game from the opening whistle until the closing one.
"The back were in a groove today. They were seeing space and were able to make the right offloads to use it." Senior Ben Erste had an exceptional game today.
Geneva's pack was great in open play and forced the Baron forwards to work for ball retention. Coach Kramer was quite pleased with the overall physical play of the forwards.
The Man of the Match was Chris Reilly. "Chris stepped up at scrum half for Paul Clever who was out sick and was poised and confident from the opening kickoff. Chris kept our forwards and back on the same page for the full 80 minutes."
The ruggers put their 3-0 conference record on the line when they hit the road and take on Robert Morris next Saturday at 1pm.
