Barons Tie Program Win Record; Defeat Pitt.-Bradford 1-0

Box Score

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Franciscan men's soccer team tied the program's win record with a tight 1-0 win over Pitt.-Bradford, Saturday afternoon.

The Barons improved to 9-3-1 on the year and 5-0 in AMCC action, tying the program win record, which was set in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Head coach Christian Bobak was a key member of the team in those two seasons and is happy to a part of challenging that record. In 2008, the Barons went 9-8-1 and 4-5 in the AMCC while the 2009 squad finished the year 9-7 and 6-4 in conference.

"I am happy with this victory, and for tying the record from when I played," commented coach Bobak. "I am looking forward to building on it from here."

Franciscan continued its quick offensive play as junior Leo Herrmann netted his 16th goal of the year just 4:01 into the first half. Herrmann finished a loose ball with a header into the top corner of the net to give FUS a 1-0 early lead.

The Barons sent a barrage of shots at the Panther keeper but Colin Frownfelter was able to keep the score close, 1-0.

Franciscan continued to dominate possession in the second half but was not able to finish off any more chances.

Sophomore Mark Fioramonti was a big part of the Barons' win and was named the team's Man of the Match. "Mark played really great for us today," remarked coach Bobak. "He won a lot of balls in the middle of the field and just played really big."

The Baron back line and junior keeper Thomas Dosedel continued their outstanding play with their fifth shutout of the year and fourth in conference action.

"Our defense has been playing great. Everyone on that backline is really playing tough. Tom (Dosedel) came up with some really big saves today and continues to play well in the net."

The Barons out-shot the Panthers 19-7 and held a 10-8 advantage in corner kicks.

"We'll enjoy this win tonight but will get back right to work tomorrow. Every game is going to be a dog fight from here on out and we will be ready."

Franciscan continues its pursuit of its first birth in the AMCC tournament as the Barons host Mount Aloysius on Tuesday at 4pm.
