Box Score GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Franciscan's women's basketball team dropped a 65-35 contest to Grove City, Tuesday evening.
The Lady Barons had a tough time getting their offense in a rhythm, but once again sophomore Raegan Stead proved to be a consistent force for FUS with 14 points on the day.
Grove City cruised to a 40-17 lead at half time and built on that cushion throughout the third and fourth quarter. The Wolverines built a 55-24 lead as the two teams headed into the final quarter.
Stead opened the final 10 minutes with a three off an assist from Anna Ames and the Lady Barons cut the lead to 56-27. With three minutes to go, freshman Cianna Vaughan made a layup and after a GCC free throw, freshman Abby Bairel and Vaughan went back-to-back with jumpers to bring the score to 65-35 in favor of Grove City with 1:23 to play in the game. The Lady Baron defense was able to hold off the Wolverines for the last minute and a half as Franciscan outscored the Wolverines 11-10 in the quarter.
"Tonight was a tough night for us," remarked head coach Suzy Delaney. "We did some things well, but we have a lot to work on. We have to embrace the opportunities and work each day to improve. I am proud of the girls and how they fought today."
The Lady Barons continue the road trip as they travel to Hiram on Saturday for a 2pm game.
