Box Score

GREENSBURG, Pa. - A second half comeback came up short as the Franciscan women's basketball team fell to the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats 77-67.

Both teams traded baskets for a majority of the first quarter until Pitt.-Greensburg ended the quarter on a 12-4 run led by Sylvia Stuart, who scored seven of her 14 points in that final 4:52.

Pitt.-Greensburg really created separation in the second quarter, opening the quarter on a 13-0 run before senior guard Iliana Gonzales made a three-point play at the 6:32 mark. The Bobcats maintained a double-digit lead throughout the quarter to outscore Franciscan 24-15 and took a 18-point lead into the locker room.

The Bobcats opened up the third quarter on yet another run, holding Franciscan scoreless for the first 3:30 of the quarter while extending their lead to 26 points. However, the Lady Barons were not going down without a fight and ended the third quarter on a 7-0 run.

Sophomore center Lucia Westrick gave the Lady Barons an offensive boost by scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter as Franciscan tried to play catch up with the Bobcats. Sophomore guard Sarah Schriner, along with Gonzales, also contributed offensively with eight and seven points respectively as the Bobcats saw their lead slowly diminish. However, the Lady Barons could not break the 10-point barrier in the final three minutes of the game as Greensburg held on for its seventh conference win.

Gonzales led the Lady Barons with 25 points while Westrick nabbed her fifth double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Schriner finished as the third-leading scorer with 11 points.

Despite the loss, Franciscan remains in sixth place in the AMCC with a 5-8 conference record and is 6-13 overall. Five games remain in the season as Franciscan needs to finish in the top six in the conference in order to make an appearance in the AMCC tournament for the second-straight year.

The Lady Barons will play the first of three consecutive home games when Penn State Behrend travels to Steubenville on Saturday, February 6, for a 4 p.m. tip. In the two teams' last matchup, Franciscan fell in the final minutes 64-61 to the third-place Lions.
