Box Score 2 Pittsburgh, Pa. -The Franciscan softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests to Chatham, Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Barons fell 7-2 in the opening game before dropping the night cap, 10-3.
The Lady Barons have come out of the game strong in the last few games, and scored a pair of runs in the first inning of the first game and a run in the opening frame of the second to continue their early success. Chatham mounted its comeback, however, and overcame early deficits to post its first two wins of the season.
To start the fire, Cecilia Lademan singled before stealing second. Jordan Cunningham took ball four to put two runners on base before an out could be recorded. Both players were able to advance to the next base when Anna Ames struck out. The fire ignited with Therese Wood's triple to right field and the bases were freed from their recent occupants and the Lady Barons grabbed a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Barons held Chatham to one run until the fifth inning when the Cougars posted three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the 7-2 win.
In the second game, Lindsey Finch singled to center, stole second and made it to third on Lademan's single to open the nightcap. Cunningham singled to third to score Finch and tie the game at 1-1. An error by the Cougar's shortstop in the second allowed Renee Shumay to make it around the diamond after her two out single to give the Lady Barons an early lead.
The duo of Finch and Cunningham appeared for an encore in the bottom of the fifth. Finch got on base with a single and stealthily stole second while claiming third on a passed ball. Cunningham then stepped up to the plate and brought her teammate in with an RBI double. After the fifth, the Lady Barons trailed by just one run, but the Cougars exploded for six runs through the sixth and seventh innings to win 10-3.
"Lindsey Finch and Cecilia Lademan continued their hot hitting by combining for eight hits in the two games. We also had a good offensive day from Therese Wood with three hits including a triple and three RBIs." coach Walker commented. "We have to find a way to finish out these kinds of games."
The team travels to Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader to open conference action.
