Box Score 2 CRESSON, Pa. – The Franciscan softball team dropped its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener Wednesday as the Lady Barons fell to Mount Aloysius by a combined score of 19-2. The Lady Barons dropped the first game 9-0 before a 10-2 loss in the nightcap.
"We started both games poorly today with walking batters and having some first inning errors. We have to eliminate those kinds of things if we want to give ourselves a chance to win," remarked head coach James Walker on the games. "We obviously didn't want to start conference play 0-2, but we still have a lot of games to play. If we keep improving each time we have the chance to win some games."
In the second game, Cecilia Lademan and Jordan Cunningham both found the gaps in the defense for a pair of singles to open the contest. Renee Shumay connected for a single to drive in Lademan. Shumay singled followed by her teammates Iliana Gonzales and Kelsey Cornelio loading the bases from defensive errors to open the third inning. Molly Clarahan took a patient stance and was drew a walk to score Shumay. However, the Lady Barons were unable to bring home the 13 runners left on base from both games.
The Lady Barons return home on Saturday as they host D'Youville for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
