Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Spring break means that the spring sports get to play in warm, sunny weather. The Lady Barons softball team traveled to South Carolina eight games in five days.

Monday was the first day of play for them, as they took on Summit (PA) in the first game of the day. The Lady Barons had a slow start with allowing two runs come home, one unearned, in the top of the first. The game progressed with neither team scoring until the sixth inning. Summit came out strong in the top and scored five runs, four unearned, to seal the 7-3 win.

The Lady Barons rallied in the bottom of the sixth in a two out situation. Caroline Durand got on base with a single to center. Theresa Wood followed with a single of her own and Durand advance to third. Jordan Cunningham singled to bring in Durand.  Then a passed ball by the Summit catcher allowed Wood to cross the plate for the second run of the game for the Barons and Cunningham advanced to third. Iliana Gonzales drove in Cunningham with a single, however the Barons were unable to keep up their momentum and could not catch Summit's seven runs. Cunningham took  the loss with three strikeouts and two errors.

The second game of the day for the Lady Barons did not result in a welcomed outcome. FUS never got on the board and were shut out 11-0 against New Jersey City in 5 innings. New Jersey City started the first inning with scoring four runs and they never looked back. Wild pitches and unearned runs were a problem for the Lady Barons to stop their opponent. Amanda Pulice got the loss giving up seven runs.

The FUS softball team continues their spring break play today at 11:30 am against SUNY Poly.
