Box Score Myrtle Beach, SC-Concentration plays the leading role in the game of softball. The slightest distraction can cost you the game. The softball team had a tough loss earlier today, due to lack of focus in one inning. Coach Walker, though disappointed in the loss, commented on how the team played their best game of the spring break competitions today.
After two innings of play, the Lady Barons were the first to make the first move. Anna King who went 2 for 3 for the day led off the rotation with a bunt single. Lindsey Finch followed with her own bunt, putting a runner in scoring position. Molly Clarah filled the bases when she got hit by a pitch. The first out of the inning came when King was forced out at home on a fielder's choice from Iliana Gonzales' hit. With bases still loaded, the Lady Barons were able to capitalize on the Kangaroo's errors in the next play. Cecilia Lade put the ball in play and Finch was able to score on a muffled throw by the catcher. Then both Clarah and Gonzales made it home when the catcher had a throwing error. The Barons went down and out with two outs back to back, but not before they had jumped to an early lead from SUNY Canton's sloppy play.
"I think the girls lost focus after our big scoring inning. We just couldn't get out of the inning," Coach Walker noted on where the game went sour for Franciscan. The Kangroos scored on a combination of steals, passed balls and unearned plays, crushing the Barons' short lived lead. SUNY Canton scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to finish the game with 7 runs scored.
Freshman Amanda Pulice came into pitch during the third inning halting the opponent's advance with three straight outs. She had a solid game on the mound with only giving up two runs and three strikeouts. Coach Walker was pleased with her performance, and having another consistent pitcher to give Jordan Cunningham's arm a break.
"The more we play the better we will get," were Coach Walker's final words of the day.
The team was scheduled to play another game later in the afternoon but due to miscommunication on the start of the competition, the game was moved to Friday 11th. Tomorrow the team will play at 9:30am and 11:30am.
